Copyright Ownership

All copyright in the materials available in the Hong Kong Accountability Archive (the “Archive”) remain with the original owner unless stated otherwise. The Archive is a project that aims to preserve, enhance, and memorialize documentation of human rights violations committed in Hong Kong for use in reporting current events, research, advocacy, justice and accountability.

The Archive provides access to the materials at no cost and in furtherance of its non-profit mission to document and record certain events for research and other non-profit educational and advocacy purposes. Permission to use, copy, and distribute documents delivered from the Archive is granted only by prior written authorization, and only for private, non-commercial, and educational purposes only, and not for resale. The content, names, and logos of the Archive and its employees and partners may not be used without specific, written prior permission. The Archive makes no representation about the suitability of information for any purpose. It is provided “as- is” without express or implied warranty. The Archive disclaims all warranties with regard to information, including all implied warranties or merchantability and fitness.

The Archive respects the intellectual property rights and other proprietary rights of others. While the purpose and operation of the Archive are such that any copying of content by the Archive is for a transformative purpose, as it augments public knowledge by making available information about events without providing the public with a substantial substitute for any matter protected by any individual’s copyright interests in the original works or derivatives of them, and therefore use of content in the Archive does not expose copyright owners to an unreasonable risk of loss of copyright value. The Archive may, in appropriate circumstances and at its discretion, remove certain content or disable access to content that appears to or is alleged to infringe the copyright or other intellectual property rights of others. If you believe that your copyright has been violated by material available through the Archive, please provide the Archive Copyright Agent with the following information:

  1. Identification of the copyrighted work that you claim has been infringed;
  2. An exact description of where the material about which you complain is located within the Archive collections;
  3. Your address, telephone number, and email address;
  4. A statement by you that you have a good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;
  5. A statement by you, made under penalty of perjury, that the above information in your notice is accurate and that you are the owner of the copyright interest involved or are authorized to act on behalf of that owner; and
  6. Your electronic or physical signature.
